Talk to your lender about getting “pre-qualified.” They’ll work with you to let you know how much they’re willing to loan you for your new home, which helps you determine your overall project budget.

You probably already have a pretty good idea of which features you want your home to have, but we’ll need actual plans to get started. Lucky for you, the internet is full of websites with all kinds of plans. For specific architects, I like Frank Betz and Donald Gardner. Or, if you just want to dive into a sea of different house plans, you might start with

https://www.houseplans.com/. There are plenty of others out there – just search for “house plans.”

Determine your building site. Where will we build your new home? We have many lots in Monroe and Lamar counties for you to choose from, or you can purchase a lot on your own. Your lot will determine a lot about your home … sewer or septic system, well or county water, basement or slab … once you decide on your lot, we’ll come out and walk it with you to determine where your house could sit, and talk about other details as well.

Now for the fun part! Pick out your trims and finishes … cabinetry, flooring, faucets, exterior materials and all of the other details. I have preferred vendors who will work with you to select materials within your budget.

That’s it – we’ll take it from there! We will stay in touch throughout the building process to make sure you know what’s happening. While there are many factors that affect build time – from weather to subcontractor schedules – we average about six months from start to finish.
